Letter from the Co-founder

What is the future of cryptocurrency? As cryptocurrency grows and becomes more imbedded into our society, it’s time for us to think about the future. We at Abelian reckon it’s crucial to address the privacy and accountability issues in blockchain for it to grow into a sustainable and remarkable future. By offering Abelian Coin (ABE), a new, versatile, secure platform, we are not just only looking to introduce new thoughts into the blockchain space but to become a leader in the process.

Abelian Coin is our proposal for the future of cryptocurrency. It improves the entire cryptocurrency ecosystem by offering a new paradigm on privacy and accountability that have never been seen before on the blockchain arena.

We’re constructing Abelian in a way that privacy and accountability cooperate seamlessly. With the Abelian platform, users can enjoy the peace of mind knowing that they have the security and privacy they deserve, while having their activities be fully compliant and protected through.

We named this meaningful project Abelian, which stems from a Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel in the 19th century. The name Abelian comes from a mathematical structure named after Abel, which is commonly used by cryptographic algorithms, and is one of the key foundations of modern cryptography. We are confident that Abelian will becomes a better, accountable blockchain foundation, which helps supporting the next generation and innovative applications, especially for enterprise and financial uses.

As everyone who is involved with cryptocurrencies knows: privacy coins such as Monero (XMR), Dash (DASH), Zcash (ZEC), etc. are in huge demand. Combined, privacy coins make up for a total of $7.96 Billion. What separates Abelian from existing privacy coins is that we are offering a new level of privacy to perform secure transaction without sacrificing privacy on any level.

Another key issue that we trying to address is the relationship between users, businesses and regulatory bodies. Abelian allows user to customize the accountability configurations and allow an authority to perform surveillance effectively. It opens the door for enterprise applications, and provides a accountable options for many use cases and industries (for example, trade finance, supply chain, logistics, etc.).

Abelian Coin is a collaborative effort between us and the research institutions of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, and University of Wollongong in Australia. We are committed to building the next generation blockchain platform, Abelian, which achieves post-quantum security and accountable privacy.

Timeline

  • Stage 1: Applied Research

    ABE network infrastructure will be designed to integrate lattice-based cryptographic schemes, security analysis and consensus algorithms. The building blocks of the Abelian network will be established including the development and construction of the cryptographic framework.
  • Stage 2: Cryptographic Algorithms

    Lattice-based cryptographic schemes, including linkable ring signatures, homomorphic commitment schemes, and zero-knowledge proofs, will be implemented according to the infrastructure design for quantum-resistance. These cryptographic schemes will provide the backbone of the privacy features available on ABE.
  • Stage 3: Infrastructure Development

    InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) will be developed, along with creating the ABE Blockchain and ledger architecture, implementing the POW consensus algorithms, and all other supporting components.
  • Stage 4: Ecosystem Formation

    Wallet compatibility, mining software and hardware, and exchange software integrations will begin development at this stage. Formation of the ecosystem will provide insight into scaling or other issues that may occur before the launch of the main-net. The prototype and proof-of-concept will be released for trials by early investors and select community members.
  • Stage 5: Main-net

    ABE network deployment and creation of genesis block
  • Stage 6: Token Contracts

    Support of smart contracts on the ABE network will be released. Token standards will also be published to allow for custom quantum-resistant privacy-enabled tokens will be available to the community. Enterprise applications built on ABE will now be fully supported.
  • Stage 7: Further Enhancement

    As ABE will be open source, the community’s growth is key in determining the development path of ABE, including introducing proven new technologies into the ABE platform.
